WATCH NOW

In this episode of Civil Discourse with Citizen Tripp, host Tripp Gomez is joined by panelists to discuss engaging in community.

Panelists include Andrew, Miranda, Rev. DeBorah, Lawrence, Tony and a short appearance from Spwashi. They discuss perspectives shaped by their work, from hyperlocal food systems and grassroots event organizing to conflict resolution, spiritual facilitation and mutual support.

The panelists explore and how communities form, fracture and sustain themselves. They discuss how belonging is both a personal practice and a collective responsibility, and reflect on the tension between independence and interdependence. They talk about the role of shared experiences like food and events in bridging ideological divides and the sometimes difficult necessity of navigating differences in shared spaces.

“Instead of building a fence, build a bigger table,” Panelist Miranda reflected on a phrase her father taught her during the discussion.

Watch the full episode to hear their conversation and discover the many ways communities can take shape: from hosting gatherings to supporting local systems, resolving conflict or simply reaching out to a neighbor.
