Signal
For sensitive information, confidential conversations or situations where identifying yourself could put you at risk, we recommend contacting our editors through Signal. Signal provides end-to-end encrypted messaging and allows us to communicate directly with sources outside of ordinary email.

Hyvemind's email is hosted through Proton Mail. Messages stored in our Proton mailbox are protected with encryption. For greater privacy when using email, you can contact us from a Proton Mail account. Communications between Proton Mail accounts receive additional end-to-end encryption.
If the information you are sharing is highly sensitive, use Signal rather than ordinary email whenever possible.
We Protect Our Sources
Hyvemind takes source confidentiality seriously. If you ask to remain anonymous, we will treat your identity as confidential and will not publish your name or identifying information without your permission.
We work to limit identifying information when it is unnecessary to our reporting and discuss attribution with sources before publication.
Anonymous information still has to be verified. Our reporters may ask questions, seek corroborating records or independently confirm details before we publish. Protecting a source and rigorously verifying information are both fundamental parts of responsible journalism.
Before Sending Sensitive Information
If contacting the press could put your job, safety or legal status at risk, think carefully about how you reach us.
- Avoid using an employer-owned phone, computer or email account.
- Avoid contacting us through a workplace network when possible.
- Remember that documents can contain metadata or other information identifying where they originated.
- Consider contacting us through Signal before transmitting highly sensitive files so we can discuss the safest way to proceed.
You do not need to send sensitive documents in your first message. You can simply tell us that you have information you would like to discuss securely.
What Happens After You Contact Us?
We may contact you with additional questions, request documentation, seek independent confirmation or investigate the people and institutions involved.
Sending us information does not guarantee publication. Some tips become stories quickly while others help our reporters recognize a larger pattern, lead us toward public records or become part of reporting that develops over time.
