The North Tulsa Restaurant Where Strangers Become Friends

“Come as strangers, leave as friends” is the motto at Stutts House Bar-B-Que. For Almead Hill Stutts, it has been a way of life.

For 33 years, Almead has run her Tulsa restaurant with the memory of Grandma’s house in mind: a place where people could arrive hungry, sit close, share a table and feel welcomed before they were ever known.

Over time, that vision became a local institution, carried by generations of customers who kept coming back. In this Local Keepers feature by Hyvemind, Almead reflects on the labor, gratitude and emotional weight of keeping that room alive, and on the memories that remain after a life has been poured into feeding people well.

Special thanks to Molly Renze for introducing us to the wonderful Mrs. Stutts.
